Training Title:  Navigating Tough Talks with Parents:  How to Address the Elephant in the Room

Trainer: Amy Lerman, MA, CCC-SLP  

Description:  In the field of education, we have all been in a parent meeting that involved hard to hear news. These discussions typically end up going one of three ways. Either we avoid the uncomfortable conversation, make mistakes in the delivery, or conduct a thoughtful and empathetic dialogue. Amy Lerman, MA, CCC-SLP, Community Outreach at The Parish School will provide participants with tools and strategies to navigate these tough talks with the use of first-hand accounts, research, and clinical experience.

Training Title:  Strengthening Partnerships with Parents to Promote Optimal Growth and Development

Trainer: Zlata Stankovic-Ramirez, Ph.D. 

Description:  Parent and teachers are partners when it comes to helping children learn, grow and develop. However, partnerships can be tricky, and we will discuss why honest and open communication between parents and teachers is needed and necessary for children’s’ success. We will examine the steps needed to improve parent/teacher connections and relationships and we will also discuss some key action items you can take to build a community in your classroom with the families/parents that you serve.

Training Title:  Eat, Play, Learn: Creating a Culture of Health in ECE

Trainer:  Katie Chennisi, MPH & Justin Rahman, MPH

Description:  With over 30% of children being overweight or obese, nutrition and physical activity are critical for child health. This session will cover obesity statistics, how to implement nutrition and physical activity practices, and how to address challenges to healthy food and physical activity. Practical strategies, best practices, and resources will be shared to help create a culture of health for the children, families, and staff they serve.
